Sacrifice is

the body taken by birth
eaten by vultures and misfits for the sake of hope
the body alone
the name given to this sentence or the longer, fractured tree
the limbs aware of their obvious limitations
presence in the absence of thought
between the second and the last
the word behind the tongue buried
below silence, death of bias
this seat when the voices say run
you and me another year
