Where Do You Hide?

Twin soul of my body
Where do you wait?
In darkness or in light.
In the depth of the valley
Or the mountain at its height.
Are you captive on an island?
Am I a captain passing by?
Twin soul of my body—
Where, oh where, do you hide?

May my mind be your vessel.
For you know what I don’t.
Twin soul of my body—
Give life to this poem.
Give life to our stories.
Give life to our song.

Twin soul of my body—
You heard the first cry.
Saw the first step.
Gave rhythm to my movement.
The letters to my names,
Names to these feelings, feelings to this face.

When the names of these days
Have come to an end
Will you put me to sleep?
Just for tonight, my dear friend.
I take you to my bed
To wake with your breath.
Twin soul of my body—
Where, oh where, do you hide?
